Studies of Semiconductor Quantum Structures and Exploration of Terahertz Technology

Research Project Outline

A sensitive passive method of detecting extremely weak terahertz waves emitted from objects without external illumination is developped by ingeniously exploiting semiconductor quantum structures. Beyond characterization of matters, the method makes it possible to investigate phenomena and their dynamics in the object. The method will open up a widespread possiblity for clinic, security and environmental applications, as well as for basic studies of material properties and analysis of small number of molecules and biological cells.
