Event Report: The 26th Annual Congress of Japan Society of Computer Aided Surgery

The 26th Annual Congress of Japan Society of Computer Aided Surgery (JSCAS2017) was held at Nagoya University from October 28th through 30th. The General Chair was Prof. Mori (Nagoya University, Pj.1).

A prototype user interface of the Smart Arm, Bionic-EyE surgical simulator, and Bionic Humanoid BH-1, were exhibited during the congress.
Bionic-EyE and BH-1 were developed by our research groups of Prof. Arai (Nagoya University, Pj.1), and the prototype user interface of the Smart Arm was developed by our research group of Prof. Hasegawa (Nagoya University, Pj.2).

At the mini-symposium, "Way of collaboration between medicine and engineering for quantification of surgical procedures," planned by our program, Dr. Chinzei (AIST, Pj.1), Dr. Yamashita (AIST, Pj.1) and Dr. Uemura (Kyusyu University, Pj.2) each gave a talk and participated in the following panel discussion. Prof. Hashizume (President of JSCAS; ImPACT program adviser) closed the mini-symposium as a special speaker, emphasizing the importance of the surgical skill/training quantification and its international standardization.

The certificate of JSCAS2016 paper award was presented to Mr.Someya (Nagoya University) and his co-authors including Prof. Arai (Nagoya University, Pj.1) and his colleagues.
