Dr. Ohgaki is a professor at the Department of Urban Engineering, the University of Tokyo. He was awarded PhD in the field of environmental engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1974. He has long experience of education and research in environmental engineering, water supply technology, urban environmental policy and sustainable development at Tohoku University, the University of Tokyo, and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT, Thailand), and serves on AIT as a Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees. He directed and managed School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, as a dean from April 2002 to March 2004, and currently directs Center for Sustainable Urban Regeneration (cSUR) as the Head of Center, at the University of Tokyo. He serves on Science Council of Japan, as a member of the steering committee (former Vice President), and contributes to strengthening domestic and global academic network. In International Water Association, he is one of the Vice Presidents, and a steering committee member of Health-Related Water Microbiology Specialist Group.
