Dr. Kuwano holds degrees from Kumamoto University (B.Sc.,1963) and Osaka University (Ph.D.,1981). After joining Sanyo Electric in 1963, he was engaged in research and development of amorphous silicon cells and was responsible for the development and manufacture of an integrated amorphous silicon solar cell module, the world’s first. While at Sanyo Electric, he held a number of executive positions including General Manager, Functional Materials Research Center; Director, Member of the Board ; and President and CEO. He is currently the president of Photovoltaic Power Generation Technology Research Association (PVTEC). Dr.Kuwano was Vice President of Japan Solar Energy Society. He has received a number of awards including the Director's Award from Science and Technology Agency and PVSEC Award. He is the author of multiple books including Solar Cells (Kodansha)
