JST's Department of International Affairs jointly held a workshop with the Ministry of Science and Technology, P.R. China(MOST) in the field of “Climate Change Research”, in Tokyo. Japanese and Chinese researchers, whose projects were adopted for JST's Strategic International Research Cooperative Program on “ Climate Change ” in FY 2009 and FY 2010, made their presentations in this workshop. From the perspectives of “Observations and Prediction Studies”, “Suppression Technologies” and “Adaptation Studies”, Japanese and Chinese research leaders introduced their research, and participants discussed climate change issues as well as potential or concrete themes and areas for cooperation between the two countries.

Approximately 45 participants took part in the workshop, exchanging various views on their activities and furthering their knowledge of the status of climate change research in both countries. Moreover researchers discussed pressing issues facing both countries and applications for green technologies.

The next day, Chinese researchers visited the “National Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences”, the “National Institute for Materials Science”, and the “Building Research Institute”, receiving an introduction to their activities and a tour of the research facilities.

This workshop also aims at sharing the progress Japan and China's research projects between researchers of both countries. Through this Workshop, JST and MOST expect that Science and Technology Exchange between Japan and China will be further deepened.
