Research on Developmental Brain Sciences in Infants

Research Project Outline

We have limited knowledge about the development of the brain underlying emergence of behaviors in infants. The purpose of this project is to reveal the functional development of the cerebral cortex in early infancy and to understand the mechanisms of the development of behavior and memory. We will pursue infant studies focusing on the cross-modal integration, the perception of language, interaction with the environment though motion-perception cycle, and the development of memory by means of behavioral analysis and brain imaging techniques. We try to establish a dynamic systems theory of developmental brain sciences, which is expected to provide a new view of infant development on a basis of scientific data.
