Quantum Metrology with Ultracold Atoms

Research Project Outline

Applications of an "optical lattice clock" and a "Stark atom chip" will be explored as a new tool for quantum metrology and quantum information processing. Especial emphasis will be put on the "optical lattice clock". By applying this scheme to more than two atom species among Sr, Yb, and Hg, we will compare the stability and accuracy of the lattice clocks and test the feasibility as a next-generation optical standard. We expect that this comparison may set a new limit on the constancy of fine-structure constant.
