JST-ERATO, Designer Nanocluster Assembly Project

In this project we propose that the nanocluster- assembled systems, where the individual cluster units possess unusual and various functionalities, have a potential to create various future functional nanodevices. From the viewpoint of fundamental science, we will provide a new road map for the creation of innovative nanodevices based on the functional nanoclusters, through the clarification of their functionality and fine arrangements of the assembly (coordination geometry) of the nanoclusters.

In order to realize this goal, we focus this project in the three subjects;

* Large-scale chemical synthesis and macro-scale periodic assembly of the functional nanoclusters,
* Characterization and function analysis of the nanocluster-assembled systems, and
* Creation of novel nanodevices based on the functional nanocluster-assemblies.

These three subjects will be performed interactively each other to achieve the goal of the project. The specific ideas and objective of each research are described below.
