“SIP Energy Carriers” is one of the eleven programs of the Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP). The Green Ammonia Consortium was established and its founding assembly was held at the JST Headquarters (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), on July 25, 2017.

The "SIP Energy Carriers" program promotes R&D aimed at the smooth introduction of hydrogen and hydrogen energy carriers in society. In particular, Ammonia is one of the promising energy carriers as a direct energy source, and the research of its use has produced various accomplishments toward implementation in society.

The consortium was founded by 19 corporations and 3 public research institutes, which are members of the SIP program, with the purpose of promoting commercialization and implementation of the ammonia value chain, mainly focusing on the direct use of ammonia as a CO2-free fuel.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Shigeru Muraki, who is the Program Director of "SIP Energy Carriers" and Chairperson of the consortium, said, “Support from the industry is essential to accelerate the use of ammonia to implementation in society. This consortium will reinforce the business infrastructure of an ammonia value chain, and contribute to enhancing competitiveness of Japanese industry.” All participants shared their enthusiasm for the activities of the consortium.

JST, an integrated organization of science and technology in Japan, establishes an infrastructure for the entire process from the creation of knowledge to the return to the society. For more information, visit http://www.jst.go.jp/EN/
