1. Aims of the Program
The Program aims to promote cooperation in science and technology and to develop Japan's science and technology capacity in the future. The Program is administered based on an intergovernmental agreement between Japan and Canada, in the fields of “Environmental Science and Technology” and “Energy” as designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT) .

3. Eligibility
The Principal Investigator must be affiliated with an academic or industrial research institution (institute).
4. Period of Research
Three years
5. Amount of Funding
15 million yen /project/three years (including overhead expenses)
6. Funded Expenses
Funding provided within this call is intended to enhance the capacity of the researchers to collaborate internationally. It is provided in support of direct expenses such as travel expenses, expenses for holding symposiums, seminars and meetings, and expenses for facilities, equipment and consumables. Overhead expenses amounting to 10% or less of the total direct expenses are allowed.
7. Evaluation Process
JST and NSERC independently evaluate and rank proposals according to their respective peer review processes. Based on the results of the evaluation, JST and NSERC exchange views and make a common decision regarding the selection of a project.
8. Evaluation Criteria
The following criteria are applied in the evaluation process:
1) Conformity with Program Aims and Designated Research Fields;
2) Capability of Research Leaders and Current Research Activities;
3) Effectiveness and Synergy of the Joint Research Activity;
4) Validity of Research Plan;
5) Effectiveness and Continuity of Exchange; and
6) Validity of Exchange Plan.
