Assessment of Thermal Sensation by Brain Activity Measurement for Implementation of Energy-saving Air Conditioning

Summary

Energy consumption from air conditioning accounts for 1/3 of energy consumption in commercial and residential sectors. Restriction on use of air conditioning (cooling and heating) as well as increase in heat pump efficiency is a measure effective on energy conservation.

However, thermal comfort is also required simultaneously. This document shows the possibility that brain activity measurement can assess occupants’ thermal sensation. We will be able to propose a method to implement energy-saving air conditioning by utilizing occupants’ thermal sensation measured for air conditioning control in the future.
