Mr. Hoshiba graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo in 1975. He served as Director, Planning Division, Science and Technology Bureau, STA (1995); Director, Planning Department, Japan Marine Science and Technology Center (1996); Director, Office of Nuclear Safety Investigation, Nuclear Safety Bureau (1998); Deputy Director, Planning Department, NASDA (2000); Chief Researcher, Policy Research Office on Cabinet, Secretariat of House of Representative (2003); Executive Director, Japan Science and Technology Agency, JST (2005) and Director General for Policy Coordination, MEXT (2006). He currently serves as Executive Research Fellow, Economic and Social Research Institute, Cabinet Office, Government of Japan (since 2006).
