Dr. Niwa worked at NEC Corporation, INTELSAT (International Telecommunications Satellite Organization), and Texas Instruments Japan, where he was involved in research and development of digital communications, digital signal processing and multimedia systems. He was also involved in business development of video communication systems and mobile communication systems. Since 2003, he has been with Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), working on designing national R&D strategies in IT (Information Strategy) fields.
