Outline
Division of Biological Science of Nara Institute of Science and Technology promotes innovative research in bioscience and biotechnology, and fosters human resources through graduate education. Throughout the past 26 years, NAIST has accepted a large number of Indonesian students and trained 64 doctoral students, most of whom are active in their home countries as university faculty members or researchers at national institutions. These alumni have organized the Indonesian NAIST Alumni Association, and while mutually cooperating in research and educational activities in Indonesia, they are actively involved in international joint research with NAIST faculty and in sending Indonesian students to NAIST. This program promotes research exchange between young faculty, researchers, and graduate students of NAIST and partner organizations engaged in microbial and structural biology, genetic engineering, medical biology, and plant science fields, aiming to develop the international joint research on “bio-production” with National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), which is currently under preparation, into broader and more sustainable research.
