Outline
The Research Center for Environmental Quality Management (RCEQM) at Kyoto University and the Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC) at University Technology of Malaysia (UTM) are collaborating to develop cutting-edge membrane treatment technologies aimed at mitigating the risks posed by trace organic chemicals (TrOCs), microplastics, antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB), and their associated genes (ARGs) in aquatic environments. Kyoto University contributes expertise in environmental engineering by employing advanced analytical techniques, such as LC-MS/MS and PCR, to quantify these contaminants and assess their removal efficiency through membrane technologies. Meanwhile, University Technology of Malaysia (UTM) focuses on the development of innovative polymeric membrane technologies through a chemical engineering approach.
As part of the exchange program, academic meetings will bring together researchers and students from both countries, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration. The program also partners with the Malaysian Alumni Association of the Sakura Science Association (MASSA), an alumni network of Sakura Science Exchange Program, and the ASEAN University Network (AUN-Net) to nurture young researchers and establish a robust foundation for future interdisciplinary and international research initiatives.
