Outline
For the sustainable development of the rapidly growing aquaculture industry in the ASEAN region, control of infectious diseases, which are the biggest obstacles to production, is essential. In this program, the Institute for Aquaculture Biotechnology of the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology will invite one young researcher each from the universities of four ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand) to conduct joint research with young Japanese faculty members and graduate school students and also dispatch young Japanese members to each ASEAN university to deepen exchanges. Finally, the ASEAN participants will present the research outcomes at a Japanese academic conference. Through these activities, the ASEAN participants will share and experience a series of research processes, improving the capacity of Japan and ASEAN countries to promote joint research on fish disease control.
