Expectations for the Program

Japan, which used to be an economically affluent country, is now facing unprecedented difficulties such as a declining population, aging society with fewer children, economic stagnation, the arrival of emerging infectious diseases such as novel corona virus infection, global warming, and climate change. The policies that have been put in place to solve these social problems might not have been sufficiently and scientifically verified. For example, in the case of corona virus infection, scientific evidence is needed to determine how much a certain policy will save lives at the cost of economic losses. This is because policies without scientific evidence can sometimes endanger the lives of the socially vulnerable populations including working population, particular occupational cohorts, pregnant women, children, and elderly people. In this program, we hope to adopt more research projects that will lead to social implementation while ensuring scientific verification, and to send out many projects to real world to improve the quality of society, economy, medical care, welfare, environment, and education in Japan. Of course, we, the advisors, will keep pace with you and spare no effort to ensure the smooth progress of your proposed programs. We look forward to working with you.
