Message from Kimizuka, Nobuo FOREST Program Officer
FOREST Program Officer:Kimizuka, Nobuo(Distinguished Professor / Professor Emeritus, Research Center for Negative Emissions Technologies (K-NETs), Kyushu University)
This panel covers a broad range of fields, including innovative molecular design and creation in chemistry fields such as organic, polymer, metal coordination, bio- and bio‑related, supramolecular, and molecular systems. The panel also covers the elucidation of the properties and functions of these systems, as well as their broader applications.
This panel seeks research proposals based on original ideas that transcend existing frameworks. We welcome proposals that address fundamental and essential “academic questions”, even if the results may not be visible in the short term, as they have the potential to lead to future paradigm shifts. We eagerly await challenges from passionate researchers with diverse backgrounds including organic chemistry, polymer science, coordination chemistry, biochemistry, bio-related chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, materials chemistry, and computational chemistry.
A key feature of the FOREST program is its long-term support, which typically spans seven years. We encourage researchers to leverage this extended timeframe to pursue essential, foundational research themes that cannot be adequately supported by competitive, single-year funding and to dedicate themselves to realizing their dreams. We also anticipate unexpected “chemical reactions of knowledge” will emerge from regular exchanges with researchers within and outside the panel, as well as from dialogue with the advisors. Cross-disciplinary collaboration is one of the most powerful means of breaking out of the confines of specialized fields.
Young researchers, now is the time to challenge yourselves by asking questions that have never been asked before, and to seize this golden opportunity to realize your dreams. Don't fear failure, question conventional wisdom, and forge your own research path. Paradigm shifts never emerge from looking backwards at predefined outcomes. The FOREST programme will wholeheartedly support you in achieving your goals and growing as independent researchers. We look forward to receiving applications from researchers with innovative ideas and a passion for their work.
