The Hirosaki University Center of Healthy Aging Innovation – “Sustaining National Health in an Aging Society,” one of the 18 sites promoted by the COI Program*, has been awarded the Prime Minister's Award, the highest rank of the 1st Japan Open Innovation Prize hosted by the Cabinet Office.
The Japan Open Innovation Prize aims to further promote open innovation by awarding and publishing unique and trailblazing activities expected to be role models in the future, and to accelerate the creation of science and technology innovation in our country.
The Hirosaki University COI site has set the specific local goal of raising the prefecture’s life expectancy, currently the lowest in Japan, and has been developing a system for disease prediction and prevention by analyzing big data composed of 2000 attributes generated from residents' health checks in Aomori Prefecture. These continued efforts have been highly evaluated and duly earned this prize.
* The Center of Innovation program (COI program) is an industry-academia collaborative R&D program. This program was launched in 2015 as one of the main funding programs under the Center of Innovation Science and Technology based Radical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program (COI STREAM) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
