The “JST Fair 2017”, hosted by JST with support of MEXT1 , and “Innovation JAPAN 2017”, jointly hosted by JST and NEDO2 with the support of MEXT and METI3 , were held at the Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo) on August 31 and September 1, 2017.

In spite of the rain, the “JST Fair 2017”, with a theme of “Creation of Future Industry through S&T”, successfully gathered visitors. All the seats were filled to capacity at the keynote speech by Mr. Hikaru Ishiyama, Director and COO of Digital Sensation Co. Ltd., and at other seminars such as the JST Center for Research and Development Strategies (CRDS).

A crowd gathered at the “Tower of Babel” exhibition, which is one of the exhibitions of the COI program. In booths introducing JST’s operations and results, visitors watched demonstrations and listened to the presentations. At the “Innovation Japan” site, exhibitions by universities also attracted many people. Over two days, the “JST Fair” drew 15,886 visitors, and “Innovation Japan” drew 25,703 visitors. Members of the Diet also came to the event, including the Minister of MEXT, and their numbers jumped from 9 members in the previous year to 17 members this year. Additionally, we welcomed 9 pairs of VIPs from overseas, industries, and local governments.

With many reporters and journalists from the press also in attendance, it was a fruitful two-day event for JST to widely advertise our operations and results to society.
