Molecular basis of improvement in nutrient efficiency in plants

Plant biomass production should not compete with food production and it is preferable to have high yields with small energy inputs. To obtain scientific basis for increase in the plant productivity under unfertile soils and/or little fertilizer inputs, the present study aims to identify novel genes which can be used for improvement in fertilizer use efficiency through Arabidopsis genetics. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and boron are among the target nutrients and mutants with reduced nutrient contents and high biomass production will be searched and analyzed.
