Development of novel synthetic reactions to access valuable substituted aromatic compounds from wood biomass

Protocols that realize production of functional substances such as pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials from wood will be developed to avoid consumption of fossil resources. Transformations of unused wood biomass, particularly ligin and its degradation products, to substituted benzenes and pyridines through transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling and cycloaddition reactions will be investigated.
