Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is an inherited renal disorder characterized by the development of renal cysts and renal failure. In addition, various extrarenal manifestations occur, including cysts of liver and pancreas as well as aortic and intracranial aneurysms. Despite many years of research using animal models, currently there is no effective therapy. In this study, we will derive iPS cell lines from patients with PKD in order to establish in vitro models of cyst and aneurysm formation. These systems will allow us understand the pathogenesis of PKD and potentially discover effective pharmacological therapy.
