The purpose of the study is to develop THz/IR photodetectors operating with the different principle from others. The key technology in the photodetector is nano-engineered gold particles with nanogaps working as THz/IR optical antennae. In the study, a volume phase transition of a polymer gel will be induced by a radiation force actualized by an intense gradient of the electromagnetic field localized on several nanometer-sized gaps, so that the phenomenon can be applied to a sensor of the THz/IR light utilizing a MEMS technology that is highly sensitive to the structural changes caused by a volume transition of the gel.
