In order to target and detect proteins overexpressed in human disease, new MRI imaging agents will be designed and synthesized. The molecular design features a Gd@fullerene complex offering high contrast enhancement coupled to enzyme-specific peptide ligands and an innovative supramolecular quenching strategy to turn the MRI enhancement On or Off. These novel complexes will be applied to the in vivo diagnosis of atherosclerosis and cancer.
