JST's Support for Induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS) Cell Research

Professor Shinya Yamanaka, of Kyoto University, M.D., Ph.D., has been promoting research related to iPS cell in CREST, which is one of the JST research funding programs.

Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) supports iPS cell research activities in various fields as follows.

(1) Establishing new research funding such as,
a. Yamanaka iPS cell special project
b. iPS cell research CREST
c. iPS cell research PRESTO
(2) Holding symposium
(3) Supporting research infrastructure

In this context, JST launches a new CREST and PRESTO in January 28th, 2008 (see appendix). The Yamanaka iPS cell special project will start in 2008.
