Pressure is an important factor that characterizes the physiological environment for biological species. The application of high pressures causes significant changes in cell morphology and activities. The pressure-induced effects are ascribed to the modulation of the hydrogen-bonded network between protein and water molecules. I develop a novel microscope to clarify the role of protein hydration controlled by a regulated high-pressure. My goal is to elucidate the mechanism of how protein molecules produce biological functions in collaboration with water molecules. |
