The aim of this study is to develop a novel technique which is capable of measuring the viscoelasticity of single molecule using a thermally/externally driven motion of an AFM cantilever. Quantitative analysis of single molecule viscoelasticity provides dynamic information of minor intramolecular motion of the molecule, which is expected to reveal its biological function. Using the single molecule viscoelasticity, a novel single molecule manipulation technique that can control a single molecule reaction and formation of a desired structure will also be developed.
