Gene expression regulation via RNA surveillance mechanism

Abstract
Eukaryotes have evolutionally conserved mRNA surveillance mechanism that detects and degrades mRNA containing premature termination codons (PTC) to eliminate potentially harmful C-terminally truncated proteins which can have gain-of-function and dominant-negative effects. This project addresses the development of new methods which isolate and detect PTC-containing mRNAs. These technologies will be the basic technology for the diagnosis and treatment for various genetic diseases and cancers.
