Abstract

So far, I have developed a novel nucleic acid analog composed of a π-electron-rich backbone instead of a natural ribose-phosphate backbone, and found that the analog forms thermally and thermodynamically stable duplex. In this project, I am going to develop a novel molecular beacon with the π-electron-rich backbone to detect an RNA molecule and a novel siRNA (short interfering RNA) molecule containing the π-electron-rich backbone to suppress gene expression.
