Analysis of new physiological and pathological roles of lipid hydroperoxide in phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) knockout mice and cells
Abstract
Lipid hydroperoxide are produced in biomembrane by attack of reactive oxygen species under several diseases and oxidative stress or by several specific lipid oxidizing enzymes. However, its physiological and pathological roles have not yet been clarified. Phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) is an only antioxidant enzyme that can directly reduce phospholipid hydroperoxide in mammalian cells. The goal of this project is to clarify the new role of lipid hydroperoxide in the control of cell growth and the propagation of several diseases by using a new oxidized lipid metabolome analysis in PHGPx knockout cells and mice.
