Analyses of pathophysiological functions of secreted phospholipase A2 isozymes
Abstract
Phospholipase A2 (PLA2), a group of enzymes that hydrolyze the sn-2 position of glycerophospholipids, are classified into several families. Although intracellular PLA2s have been implicated in arachidonate metabolism and membrane phospholipid remodeling, functions of secreted phosphplipase A2 (sPLA2) enzymes have remained largely obscure. In this study, analyses of sPLA2 gene-manipulated mice, in conjunction with lipidomics approaches, will be performed to shed light on true in vivo substrates and unexplored pathophysiological functions of individual sPLA2 isozymes.
