Abstract

Have you ever thought that your research or expertise is too high-level and so is directly unrelated to the creation of social value? You may be overlooking chances to pave the way for new values or open up a new world, due to an unconscious manner of your own thinking way. In this seminar, Prof. Kagami, who has fostered highly creative next-generation researchers, will cover a mindset required for the researchers who can make a social impact. We can also learn how he has provided entrepreneurship educational programs that foster this. Why don't you update your perspective in this opportunity?

Speaker

Dr. Shigeo KAGAMI
Professor, Graduate School of Engineering/Deputy Director General, Division of University Corporate Relations, the University of Tokyo

Dr. Shigeo KAGAMI holds a BA from the Faculty of Commerce and Management, Hitostubashi University, an MBA from IMEDE (predecessor of IMD) based in Switzerland, and a Ph.D. in Business Management from Case Western Reserve University. He served as a founding partner of Corporate Directions, Inc. (CDI) after leaving Boston Consulting Group and later served as CDI's Managing Director. In 2002, he became a lecturer for the Corporate Sponsored Research Programs at the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Tokyo and was appointed as a professor and General Manager at the Division of University Corporate Relations (formerly, the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Division of University Corporate Relations), in 2004. He served as auditor at the University of Tokyo Edge Capital Co., Ltd. (UTEC) from 2004 to 2013 and was appointed as a professor and General Manager of the Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship from 2013 to March 2020. He has served in his current position since April 2020. He is also a current president of the Japan Academic Society for Ventures and Entrepreneurs. In 2005, he created the University of Tokyo Entrepreneur Dojo and launched various entrepreneurship education programs. He serves as the University of Tokyo's representative in the MEXT's Exploration and Development of Global Entrepreneurship for the NEXT Generation (EDGE-NEXT) program. In FY 2021, as a program manager, he further started the Greater Tokyo Innovation Ecosystem (GTIE) program, one of the MEXT's STRAT projects. as a program manager.
