Vols. 1 to 4 of the Seminar/Workshop Series for Researcher Professional Development have explored the importance of self-reflection, which is a vital part of researchers’ professional and career development. Vol. 5 will focus on the mindset necessary for researcher start-ups to create social values. It will be a great opportunity for participants to reflect on their own stance from a comprehensive perspective, including in terms of social and public impact.
Dr. Shigeo KAGAMI
Professor, Graduate School of Engineering/Deputy Director General, Division of University Corporate Relations, the University of Tokyo
Dr. Shigeo KAGAMI holds a BA from the Faculty of Commerce and Management, Hitostubashi University, an MBA from IMEDE (predecessor of IMD) based in Switzerland, and a Ph.D. in Business Management from Case Western Reserve University. He served as a founding partner of Corporate Directions, Inc. (CDI) after leaving Boston Consulting Group and later served as CDI's Managing Director. He then served as Senior Vice-President and General Manager at CDI USA. In 2002, he became a lecturer for the Pharmaco-Business Innovation Course at the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Tokyo and was appointed as a professor and General Manager at the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Division of University Corporate Relations, in 2004. He served as auditor at the University of Tokyo Edge Capital Co., Ltd. (UTEC) from 2004 to 2013. In 2005, he created the University of Tokyo Entrepreneur Dojo and launched an entrepreneurship education program. He serves as the University of Tokyo’s representative in the MEXT’s Exploration and Development of Global Entrepreneurship for NEXT Generation (EDGE-NEXT) program. He has served in his current position since April 2020.
Dr. Yuya NAKAYAMA
President & CEO, Axelspace Corporation
Dr. Yuya NAKAMURA was born in 1979 in Mie Prefecture. He holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo. During his graduate school years, he participated in the development of the nano-satellites, XI-IV, XI-V, and PRISM, as part of a nano-satellite development project for graduate students. After completing his graduate course, he served as a project researcher (Undergraduate Start-up Creation Project) at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and then founded the Axelspace Corporation in 2008. His company engages in commercial space utilization through nano-satellite development.
Mr. Ko ISHIYAMA
Representative Director & President, ExaWizards Inc.
Mr. Ko ISHIYAMA was born in 1982 in Niigata Prefecture. He holds a master’s degree from the Department of Computational Intelligence and Systems Science, Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology. He joined Recruit Holdings Co., Ltd. in April 2006. After promoting digitalization in Recruit, he established a company under Recruit’s “New RING” (predecessor of the current “Ring”) program for employees with new business ideas. Building on his success in leading the business into its growth phase in three years and selling it, he was appointed as the director of Recruit Media technology Lab. In April 2014, he founded and became the first director of the Recruit Institute of Technology, which conducts AI research in April 2015. He was appointed as a director and COO of Digital Sensation Co., Ltd. in March 2017. He has served in his current position since October 2017, when Digital Sensation merged into ExaWizards Inc. He also serves as a visiting professor at Shizuoka University and a visiting associate professor at the Institute for Future Initiatives, the University of Tokyo.
