Professor Toyota Featured on CBC Radio
Professor Masatsugu Toyota of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Saitama University was featured on two CBC Radio programs, "Deai Fureai Tankentai" and "Moeyo! Kenkyu no Shishitachi".
During the radio programs, Professor Toyota’s research was introduced. His work has revealed how plants use calcium ion signals to transmit danger information throughout their entire body when attacked by insects. He has also clarified mechanisms underlying plant defense responses involving movement, as well as
communication between plants through volatile chemical compounds.
These studies provide important insights into how plants perceive external stimuli, transmit information, and respond appropriately. They are also expected to contribute to the development of new agricultural technologies that make use of plant immune functions.
At the end of the programs, Professor Toyota shared a message for students: “I hope you will not hesitate to challenge yourself beyond the boundaries of organizations and academic disciplines.”
This message reflects the importance of interdisciplinary challenges and conveys his expectations for the next generation of researchers.
