ゲノムDNA配列に依存しない「クロマチン構造」の多様性による遺伝子制御機構は「エピジェネティクス」の根幹と考えられています。この生命現象を制御するエピジェネティクスのメカニズムの解明を目指し、クライオ電子顕微鏡解析を中心的な手法として、クロマチン構造の多様性と機能との相関を明らかにすることを目指しています。
The diversity of higher-order structures of chromatin, which regulates genetic information regardless of the DNA sequences, is considered to be the basis of “epigenetics”. By employing principally cryo-electron microscopy technology, we aim to reveal the correlation between the diversity of chromatin structures and its function, which will facilitate efforts to elucidate the mechanisms of epigenetics controlling the fundamental phenomenon of gene regulation.

現在最もパワフルな構造解析手法であるクライオ電子顕微鏡構造解析を用いて、クロマチンの三次元構造を解くことにより、クロマチンの構造多様性を明らかにしていきたいと考えています。
Currently, the cryo-electron microscope technology is the most powerful tool for studying structural biology. My objective is to determine various three-dimensional structures of chromatin using the cryo-EM method to understand the diversity of the chromatin structures and its functions.

分子という機能の最小単位には無限の組み合わせが存在します。その分子の組み立てを実現できるのは合成化学で、ここには自在な分子構築の「面白さ」と努力次第で革新的な結果が得られる「可能性」があります。まだ分子化学的アプローチで研究が行われていない分野は多くあり、触媒を使った分子結合の活性化技術を応用することで、新たなイノベーションを生み出すことが可能です。我々は「面白い分子」を創ることで、合成化学の発展に寄与したいと思います。
A molecule—which is the smallest fundamental unit of matter that exhibits the properties of the substance—can be structurally combined in an infinite number of ways. Building a multitude of such molecules while exploring new chemical space is not only “fun” but also opens up “new possibilities” to serve the chemical, as well as the global community. The discipline that can realize the creation of new molecules is synthetic chemistry. In order to contribute to the continued development of synthetic chemistry, our research goals are three-fold: building molecules/destroying molecules/creating game-changing molecules. To tackle these fundamental pursuits in synthetic chemistry, we aim to become masters in the art of molecular construction by using unique synthetic strategies and catalyst designs.

哺乳類の生殖細胞の分化発生におけるクロマチンダイナミクスの研究に取り組んでいます。特に精子に残存するヒストンの残存メカニズムや経世代効果の解明に注力しています。
We are investigating chromatin dynamics during germ cell differentiation and development. Our particular interest is sperm-retained histones, and we are trying to elucidate the mechanisms how they are escaped from histone-protamine exchange and whether they have transgenerational effects.
