Outline

Tribological problems relating to occurrences of friction and wear in sliding surfaces are necessary to be solved as an important issue in the field of mechanical engineering. This study will show the best structures of phase interfaces and the mechanisms for ultra-low sliding friction through the in-situ observation using several kinds of unique analyzers such as a neutron reflectometer and an infrared spectrometer equipped with tribometers. In addition, the study will bring a guideline for the optimum design of phase interfaces and finally develop the novel interfaces achieving ultra-low friction.
