Research Theme
Involvement of the functional impairment of microRNAs due to chronic inflammation in the inflammation-related oncogenesis

Chronic inflammation, such as chronic gastritis and hepatits, is a major cause of inflammation-related oncogenesis.
MicroRNAs are non-coding RNAs which regulate target gene expression, and are recently discovered as potentially related with inflammation or tumorigenesis In this project, we will focus on the functional impairment of microRNAs due to chronic inflammation. We will elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the inflammation-related oncogenesis from thepoint of view of microRNA functional impairment, using modulators of miRNA function and mouse models which develop inflammation-related tumors. Through these analyses, we will try to develop novel therapeutics or preventive methods against inflammation-associated carcinogenesis.
