Cellular senescence as a novel mechanism of chronic inflammation and cancer progression
Oncogenic stress such as oncogene activation and DNA damage provokes irreversible proliferation arrest of primary cells, and this phenomenon is known as “cellular senescence”. It has been recently suggested that unlike apoptotic cells, senescent cells survive for a long time and secrete a variety of inflammatory cytokines, thereby contributing to chronic inflammation. In this study, the molecular mechanism of chronic inflammation will be elucidated through a novel insight of cellular senescence of non-immune cells. This study would clarify that cellular senescence could involve in inflamatory cancer progression and age-related inflammation.
