Outline

In Malaysia, there is a growing strategic emphasis on the development of circular energy storage materials by recycling agricultural waste, such as the vast quantities of biomass derived from the nation’s signature palm oil. This project aims to develop circular energy storage materials utilizing Malaysia’s local resources by integrating Japan’s world-class "Big Facilities" (large-scale accelerators and supercomputing infrastructures) with Malaysia’s expertise in Materials Informatics (first-principles calculations, machine learning, and molecular dynamics simulations). Through this collaborative research, we will establish a globally unique group of early-career researchers who possess both the technical proficiency to utilize large-scale facilities and advanced knowledge of Materials Informatics. By evolving this project into a sustainable, multi-layered international collaboration, we seek to strengthen the foundation of a global partnership that advances Malaysian green technology in a complementary manner.
Furthermore, we will facilitate brain circulation through the mutual exchange of talented researchers, ultimately ensuring a sustainable supply of circular energy storage materials—independent of critical raw materials—for Malaysian society.
