OUTLINE

The ERIA–APRC Research Exchange and Innovation Workshop on Biomanufacturing provides a platform for leading researchers from ASEAN and Japan to share their latest findings in the target field, build a professional network, and contribute to the development of science and technology cooperation between ASEAN countries and Japan. Building on the success of the inaugural workshop held in Tokyo in 2024, this second edition continued to foster academic dialogue, deepen mutual understanding of critical fields of interest to both ASEAN and Japan, and strengthen the collaboration in biomanufacturing.

The focus of the second workshop was on "Biomanufacturing," which countries around the world are focusing on to realise a carbon-neutral society. At the closed workshop held in Jakarta, researchers from both ASEAN and Japan introduced their research results on manufacturing products using biological materials and the production of useful substances using the capabilities of organisms such as microorganisms.

This academic exchange also provided the foundation for discussions at the Inaugural ERIA Collaborative Partnership Forum on Biomanufacturing, supported by APRC, the following day, where researchers connected with industry and policymakers to explore the broader application of their findings.
