Quantitative valuation and demand-oriented provision of irrigation service

- Carry out continuous observations of agricultural water use in the target area and investigate irrigation service needs.
- Conduct model analysis of water flow and water temperature through irrigation and drainage canals in the target area.
- Evaluate the social and economic value of irrigation service.
- Develop applications and application interfaces for service provision that farmers and citizens can use on mobile terminals, etc
Since ancient times, irrigation systems have been supply-oriented water supply systems with advantages in the upstream reach, rather than demand-oriented systems based on awareness of the exact needs of the farmers and citizens who are supposed to benefit from the system. In this research project, aimed at provision of demand-oriented irrigation services capable of delivering water and water-related information to the beneficiaries, we will observe the dynamic movement of water in the target district, determine the irrigation service needs, and devise a quantitative model of these contents. We will also develop applications and application interfaces for efficient provision of service to the beneficiaries. We will further offer opinions on irrigation system design policies from the standpoint of farmers and citizens.
