The 4th Annual Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC)

JST President Nakamura attended the 4th Annual Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC) and its associated symposium, held from May 26 to 28 in Tokyo. The meeting was jointly hosted by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa for the purpose of discussing the themes “Research Funding for Scientific Breakthrough” and “Building Research and Education Capacity”. As supporting agencies of the meeting, JST and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of South Africa collaborated with the hosts.

Representatives of 57 organizations from 50 countries and regions took part in a lively discussion on both themes. As a result of the meeting, a statement of principles and actions for respective themes to which each funding agency is expected to adhere, was endorsed.
