The 3rd Annual Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC)

JST President Nakamura attended the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC), held from May 26 to 28 in Beijing, China. The meeting was jointly hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) for the purpose of discussing the themes "Shaping the future" and "Open access to publications".

Representatives of 52 organizations from 38 countries and regions took part in a lively discussion on both themes. In the session on "Shaping the future", a statement of principles and actions for supporting young researchers to which each funding agency is expected to adhere, was endorsed. Regarding "Open access to publications", opinions were exchanged based on a summary report on review of the implementation of the GRC Open Access Action Plan which was endorsed at the 2nd Annual Meeting in 2013.

At the end of the meeting, it was announced that the 4th Annual Meeting of the GRC will be co-hosted by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa in Tokyo, Japan in May 2015.
