The e-ASIA Joint Research Program aims to contribute to the resolution of regional challenges as well as economic and human resource development, by providing support to collaborative research projects implemented by three or more member countries, who are mainly located in the East Asian region. The e-ASIA JRP also promotes the creation of networks among researchers through the organisation of symposia and workshops, and provides a forum for the exchange of views among funding agencies.

In one of the fields of cooperation prioritised in the e-ASIA JRP: "Advanced Interdisciplinary Research towards Innovation", an open workshop on the theme of "Intelligent Infrastructure" was recently held in Yangon, Myanmar. Researchers from Japan, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Singapore attended the event to introduce their research and to engage in discussion towards the resolution of infrastructure challenges, from the perspectives of research, analysis, modeling/simulation, optimization and implementation.

The workshop participants recognized the need to maintain cooperative ties in the future and to continue to define the directions of activities, for example to formulate guidelines for the development of infrastructure.

After the workshop, the participants took part in a site visit to the Thilawa special economic zone, located in the suburbs of Yangon.

It is expected that this workshop will have contributed to the further promotion of exchange in science and technology among participating countries.
