2013 Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC)

JST Senior Executive Director Ohtake attended the Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC), held on November 18 and 19 in Jeju, Korea. The meeting was co-hosted by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) and the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development of Vietnam (NAFOSTED) for the purpose of summarizing the opinions of the region in preparation for the 3rd annual meeting of the GRC to be held in Beijing in May 2014, where the themes "Funding the future" and "Open access to publications” will be discussed.

Representatives of 18 organizations from 14 countries took part in a lively discussion on both themes. In the session on ”Funding the future", each participant presented their activities supporting human resources in research, and a regional statement of principles to which each funding agency is expected to adhere, was endorsed. Regarding "Open access to publications", opinions were exchanged in review of the implementation of the GRC Open Access Action Plan which was endorsed at the 2nd GRC Summit in May earlier this year.

The outcome of this meeting and those of the other regional meetings will be summarized by the GRC International Steering Committee and presented at the 3rd annual meeting of the GRC in May 2014.
