JST's Department of International Affairs jointly held a workshop with the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC) in the field of "Genomics for Clinical Research" in Shanghai, China. From the perspectives of "disease genes?genomic cohort studies", "medical applications for genomics" and "new technologies for genomics", Japanese and Chinese researchers introduced their research and discussed the use of recent genome and epigenome information as well as potential or concrete themes and areas for cooperation between the two countries.
Approximately 35 participants took part in the workshop, exchanging various views on their activities and furthering their knowledge of the status of genomics research in both countries. Moreover researchers discussed pressing issues facing both countries and applications for drug discovery and medical studies.
Japanese researchers visited the "Institute of Health Sciences" of the "Chinese Academy of Sciences" and the "Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine", receiving an introduction to their activities and a tour of the research facilities.
Through this Workshop, JST and NSFC expect that Science and Technology Exchange between Japan and China will be further deepened.
