Mechanisms of photosynthetic regulation under fluctuating light conditions

Photosynthesis is the most important metabolism for determining plant biomass. Research into finding ways to increase crop yields has focused on improving steady-state photosynthesis. However, there are few studies that address improvements of non-steady-state photosynthesis. Leaves in natural plant canopies experience a highly variable light environment over the course of a day due to changes in leaf angle, cloud cover, and overshadowing canopy cover. Therefore, this research aims to identify limiting steps of photosynthesis and improve photosynthetic capacity under fluctuating light conditions.
