Elucidation of the novel adaptation mechanism of photorespiration in response to light environment and its manipulation for better plant productivity

Since photorespiration lowers the rate of photosynthetic CO2 fixation by 30-50% in the air, many attempts have been made to artificially control photorespiration. However, no great success has yet been achieved in this regard. The present study aims to elucidate the adaptation mechanism of photorespiration in response to the ambient light conditions. We will then modify the mechanism and try manipulating photorespiratory pathways to enhance plant productivity.
