Germ cells are only cells which can acquire totipotency through fertilization. Germ cells have similarities with pluripotent cells such as ES cells and iPS cells. We have found that the factors which involved in germ cell characteristics have reprogramming activity for somatic cells. We are trying to understand the mechanisms which underlies acquisition of pluripotency thorough the understanding of germ cell specificities to apply for somatic cell reprogramming.
